JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team held Fort Hays State in check defensively during the first half, but FHSU stormed back over the final 20 minutes to beat the Blue Tigers, 86-55, on Saturday (Feb. 15).
Saturday was Senior Day, with a ceremony held after the game to recognize
Kaloni Pryear and
Alecia Gulledge, who were playing their final home game as Blue Tigers. Pryear had eight points, five rebounds, a steal and a team-high five assists. Gulledge, meanwhile, led LU with 12 points and pulled down three rebounds.
In the first quarter, Lincoln (3-21, 0-15 MIAA) held Fort Hays State (18-6, 9-6 MIAA) to just three field goals, as FHSU made eight shots at the line to take a 16-7 advantage through the first 10 minutes. The Blue Tigers opened the second period on an 11-2 run, tying the game at 18, but Fort Hays State out-scored LU, 11-5, the rest of the way to go up by six entering the break.
Fort Hays State heated up in the second half, especially behind the arc, as FHSU drained eight treys while shooting better than .500. The Blue Tigers shot .667 from the field in the third quarter, but a 30-13 fourth quarter run from FHSU helped Fort Hays State to leave Jason Gym with the win.
Vivian Chigbu led LU with eight rebounds and scored six points, tying
Anna Munoz Vidueira, who also had two blocks, a rebound and an assist.
Natasha Elliott added five points and a pair of steals to the Blue Tiger cause, and
Kiara Shoulders came off the bench to provide eight points, seven boards and two steals.
Natasha Dolinsky also had eight points for LU as well as two boards and two assists.
Virja Lewis rounded out the scoring with two points, a rebound and an assist.
Lincoln will play its final four games of 2019-20 on the road, beginning on Tuesday (Feb. 18) with a 5:30 p.m. CST contest in Warrensburg, Mo. against Central Missouri.
