Vivian Chigbu finished one rebound short of a double-double, and
Kaloni Pryear led the Lincoln women's basketball team with 16 points, but Emporia State edged LU, 67-58, on Saturday (Feb. 1).
Chigbu tallied 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal. Pryear, meanwhile, grabbed seven rebounds and had six assists as well as a steal.
Natasha Dolinsky also dished six assists, and chipped in eight points while registering two rebounds and a steal.
Emporia State (15-5, 8-3 MIAA) scored 16 points in both the first and second periods, taking a 32-25 lead into the third quarter. Lincoln (3-17, 0-11 MIAA) scored the first five points of the third quarter to pull within 32-30, but the Lady Hornets scored 11 of the next 19 points to hold a 43-38 lead entering the final quarter.
The Blue Tigers would cut the deficit down to five on two occasions during the final 10 minutes, including making it a 63-58 affair on a trey by Pryear with 1:21 remaining. The Lady Hornets prevented Lincoln from getting any closer, however, scoring the final four points of the day.
Natasha Elliott and
Alecia Gulledge each scored six points, with Elliott also grabbing four rebounds and dishing two assists. Gulledge, meanwhile, had a block, a steal and a pair of boards.
Virja Lewis closed the scoring with eight points, six boards and two steals, while
Nia McCaskill pulled down a rebound and
Vedrana Radosavljevic dished an assist.
Lincoln will be on the road for its next two games, beginning on Wednesday (Feb. 5) when the Blue Tigers visit St. Joseph, Mo. to play Missouri Western at 5:30 p.m. CST.
