Big First Quarter Helps Bronchos Beat the Blue Tigers

EDMOND, Okla. - Central Oklahoma started and finished strong as the Bronchos topped the Lincoln women's basketball team, 88-57, on Monday night (Jan. 6).

The biggest difference came in the first quarter, as UCO, which entered the week receiving votes in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Division II poll, out-scored LU, 23-6. Lincoln started to turn things around in the second quarter, out-scoring the Bronchos 20-17, with Alecia Gulledge chipping in seven points during that period.

After facing a 40-26 deficit at halftime, Lincoln (3-10, 0-4 MIAA) cut the Central Oklahoma (10-3, 4-1 MIAA) lead down to 10 on a layup from Kaloni Pryear. UCO took back control of the game afterwards, however, taking a 16-point advantage into the final quarter.

That was as close as Lincoln would come to a rally, as Central Oklahoma put the game away with 30 points over the final 10 minutes. The Blue Tigers forced the Bronchos into 28 turnovers and limited UCO to .294 shooting beyond the arc, but Central Oklahoma managed to claim a 45-30 advantage on the glass while shooting .484 overall.

Pryear led LU with 13 points and tallied three rebounds and a steal, and Gulledge finished with 10 points, four boards and a takeaway. Vivian Chigbu also had four rebounds to go with eight points, an assist and a steal, and Kyessence Collins, who had Lincoln's lone block of the game, ended her night with four points and a pair of assists.

Virja Lewis tallied six points, Kiara Shoulders and Natasha Dolinsky each collected three rebounds, and Natasha Elliott finished the night with four points. Shoulders additionally scored six points while Dolinsky had a team-high four assists as well as five points. Nia McCaskill provided two rebounds and an assist.
