HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Lincoln softball team dropped a pair of games at the Charger Chillout on Saturday (Feb. 9). The Blue Tigers fell to the tournament's host team, Alabama-Huntsville, 12-0, before Miles edged Lincoln, 4-3. Below are brief recaps of those contests:
Miles 4, Lincoln 3
The Blue Tigers registered eight hits, but a fifth-inning two-RBI single helped Miles escape with the win in Saturday's afternoon game.
A third inning sacrifice fly opened the scoring for the Golden Bears, but Lincoln took the lead in the top of the fourth on a two-RBI base hit by
Mykenzie Livesay.
Rachael Balke started the frame with a walk, then
Camryn Pryor got on board with a single. Livesay drove players home, and
Gabi McGinty later scored on an error to put LU ahead, 3-1.
A sacrifice hit following a Miles triple allowed the Golden Bears to pull within one in the bottom of the fourth, and Miles later took the lead in the fifth. Livesay, McGinty and
Jordan Lawson each had two hits for the Blue Tigers while
Emily Williams had a base hit in the top of the seventh.
Hannah Hennessy rang up a strike out inside the circle, and
Casey Grover led the defense with seven putouts.
Tori Nienhueser supplied a team-high three assists.
Alabama-Huntsville 12, Lincoln 0
In Saturday's morning game, Alabama-Huntsville used 11 hits to pull out the victory over the Blue Tigers. Lawson had a single in the third, and Pryor led off the fourth with a base hit, but UAH managed to preserve the shutout.
Shannon Greene struck out two UAH batters as LU's starter, and Hennessy had a strikeout as a reliever. Pryor and Williams tied for the team lead with three putouts apiece, and Nienhueser, Livesay and
Bekah Kirker each turned assists.
Lincoln will next be in action on Wednesday, Feb. 13, as the Blue Tigers make the short trip up to Columbia, Mo. to play Stephens in a 4:00 p.m. CST double-header.
