ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team tallied 11 hits, but the Blue Tigers dropped a pair of games to Maryville on Friday afternoon (Feb. 22). Lincoln fell in the opener, 12-2, and lost the second game, 10-1.
Maryville (7-4) got off to a fast start in Friday's first game, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning on six hits, including four on a grand slam. Lincoln (0-8) used some power hitting of its own to get on the board in the third inning, as
Jordan Lawson hit a homerun over the center field wall, bringing in
Bekah Kirker for LU's two runs of the game.
Camryn Pryor continued her hot start to the season by going 2-for-3 at the plate, and
Casey Grover,
Rachael Balke and
Mykenzie Livesay also had hits in the opener. Grover led the LU defense with five putouts, and Livesay, Kirker,
Shannon Greene and
Tori Nienhueser all turned assists.
The Saints also got their offense going early in the second game of the day, scoring two runs in the first, third and fourth frames while bringing in four in the second. Lincoln had five hits in the game while pitchers Lawson and
Hannah Hennessy combined to strike out three Maryville batters.
Pryor scored Lincoln's run in the top of the fourth after getting on board with a base hit into left field. Grover moved her to second on a ground out before
Gabi McGinty tallied LU's second hit of the inning to send Pryor to third. A sacrifice fly by Nienhueser led to Pryor scoring.
Lawson had two hits for Lincoln and Livesay had one, while Grover again led the defense by forcing six outs. Kirker provided a pair of assists while Livesay and Lawson had one apiece.
Lincoln next plays in Springfield, Mo. on Sunday (Feb. 24) as the Blue Tigers take on Drury in a 1:00 p.m. CST twinbill.
