HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Montevallo used a sixth inning running to edge the Lincoln softball team, 5-4, in the second game of an LU double header on Friday (Feb. 8). The Blue Tigers had previously dropped their first game of the day, 13-5, to Christian Brothers. Below are brief recaps:
Montevallo 5, Lincoln 4
Camryn Pryor had three hits in the second game, including a two-RBI double that scored
Jordan Lawson and
Rachael Balke in the top of the fifth to pull the Blue Tigers withing one. Lawson had reached on a walk and Balke on a fielder's choice before Pryor's hit allowed LU to cut the Montevallo lead down to 4-3. Pryor later scored on an error.
The Blue Tigers had struck first in the night cap, as a double by
Bekah Kirker plated
Mykenzie Livesay for a 1-0 LU advantage. MU responded in the bottom half of the frame, however, scoring four runs on three hits to take the advantage.
The Falcons later regained the lead with an RBI double in the sixth, and the 5-4 score would hold. Lincoln made it interesting in the end, however, as a pair of doubles led to Balke on Pryor respectively being on third and second, but a fly out ended the contest.
Balke and Kirker each had hits, while
Casey Grover led the defense with seven putouts.
Tori Nienhueser contributed three assists and Kirker provided two.
Christian Brothers 13, Lincoln 5
In the Blue Tigers' first game of the day, the Lady Bucs scored three times in the top of the first, five times in the fourth, and twice in both the fifth and sixth frames to take the ballgame. Lincoln's first runs came in the bottom of the third, as a double by Balke scored both Lawson and Kirker to the cut the deficit down to 3-2.
Paige Parker was brought home on a fielding error in the fourth, and a pair of hits led to Lincoln scoring twice in the sixth. Balke, who had four RBI in the contest, drove in both Lawson and Kirker after the former reached on a single and Kirker was issued a walk.
Balke had three hits in the contest and Lawson and Pryor finished with two apiece. Nienhueser, Grover and Parker each had a hit as well.
Shannon Greene struck out two in the circle before
Hannah Hennessy entered as a reliever, and fanned one Christian Brothers batter. Grover led LU with five putouts, and Nienhueser tallied four assists.
