JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team nearly took the lead with just under five seconds to play, but Southwest Baptist forced a jump ball to escape with a 76-73 win on Wednesday (Feb. 27).
Lincoln (10-17, 2-16 MIAA) trailed for much of the contest, but had a chance at a game-winning shot in the final seconds. Down 74-73,
Zhanesha Dickerson appeared to hit a layup that would have given LU the lead. Just before she got the shot off, however, it was ruled that SBU's Caylee Richardson had tied up the ball, and Southwest Baptist (10-17, 6-12 MIAA) was awarded a jump ball.
The Bearcats, who shot .459 from the floor but just .286 from long range, made a pair of free throws down the stretch and prevented Lincoln from making a three to earn the win. Lincoln shot .451 overall and out-rebounded the Bearcats 45-29. The Blue Tigers scored 20 of their points on second chances, and also added 18 points off 11 SBU turnovers.
Zhanesha Dickerson recorded her 11th double-double of the season, chipping in 17 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.
Bre Coleman also scored 17, and had nine rebounds as well as a pair of assists and a steal.
Zoi Thompson led Lincoln with eight assists and tallied 16 points as well as four boards and three steals.
Kaloni Pryear also finished in double figures, scoring 12 while notching six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Kiara Shoulders pulled down eight rebounds and matched
Alecia Gulledge with four points, while
Tempary Gunter rounded out LU with three points and two boards.
Lincoln will close the 2018-19 season at home on Saturday (March 2) when the Blue Tigers host Central Missouri at 12:00 p.m. CST.
