Bre Coleman led all players with 21 points, but the Lincoln women's basketball team fell in the 2018-19 finale, 77-52, to Central Missouri on Saturday (March 2).
The Blue Tigers hung with Central Missouri, the reigning NCAA Division II champions and the No. 24 team in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Division II poll, for much of the first quarter, and it was a two-point game with 4:44 left in the period. UCM ended up taking a 22-14 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes, and scored 23 points in the second quarter to begin to pull away.
Zhanesha Dickerson,
Tempary Gunter and
Kaloni Pryear all had six points for Lincoln, which wraps up the season 10-18 overall and 2-17 in MIAA play. Dickerson led LU with six rebounds and had two steals as well as an assist. Gunter also had a pair of steals to go with three rebounds, and Pryear finished with two boards, an assist and a steal.
The biggest difference in the game came on the glass, as Central Missouri (22-5, 15-4 MIAA) had 48 rebounds compared to 21 for the Blue Tigers. Despite having more offensive boards (15-5) than Lincoln, UCM scored just eight second chance points while LU scored seven. Lincoln also scored 18 points off 22 Central Missouri turnovers.
Zoi Thompson scored five points while Coleman ended the day with three rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist.
Alecia Gulledge, meanwhile, chipped in five points and blocked two shots to go with a pair of assists, two boards and a steal.
Kiara Shoulders closed the scoring with three points and led LU with three assists while tallying two steals and a rebound.
Nia McCaskill and Tiani Walls also represented the Blue Tigers on the court.
Saturday was Senior Day, and a ceremony was held after to contest to honor Coleman, Dickerson, Gunter and Thompson for playing their final collegiate games.
