KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln men's basketball team shot .448 from the floor and finished with a 43-32 advantage in rebounding to beat Upper Iowa, 61-59, in Municipal Auditorium on Saturday night (Nov. 9).
Cameron Potts and
Jonell Burton each scored 14 points, with Potts also contributing eight boards, seven assists and five steals.
Jonell Burton provided six rebounds and an assist while
L'Kielynn Taylor came close to a double-double, finishing the night with nine points, 14 boards, four steals, three assists and a block.
Lincoln (1-1) led for most of the evening and was up 61-55 with 38 seconds to play. Upper Iowa (1-1) hit a layup, then forced a quick turnover before making a pair of free throws to close the gap down to two. LU missed a free throw of its own on the ensuing possession, but rallied to force the Peacocks into a turnover with 0.4 to play. Taylor successfully in-bounded the ball to send the Blue Tigers home with their first victory of 2019-20.
Marcel Burton came off the bench to score eight points, grab seven rebounds and tally two steals as Lincoln came up with 12 takeaways on the evening. The Blue Tiger defense also held the Peacocks to just seven treys in 26 attempts (.269) and allowed only 20 field goals on 57 tries (.351).
Lamont Ballard also finished in double figures, scoring 10 points and pulling down a rebound, while
Bansi King provided five points, three boards, a steal and an assist to the winning cause.
Zack Fields grabbed three rebounds and made a free throw to wrap up the scoring.
Lincoln will be back in action on Wednesday (Nov. 13), as LU travels to Rolla, Mo. to play Missouri S&T in a 7:30 p.m. CST contest.
