JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team led for most of its home opener on Saturday (Nov. 16), but a late rally allowed St. Louis Pharmacy to edge the Blue Tigers, 69-68.
Vivian Chigbu posted a double-double, leading all players in the game with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Chigbu also had four steals and an assist on the afternoon.
Kaloni Pryear and
Alecia Gulledge each scored 10 points, and Pryear pulled down five rebounds while Gulledge had four to go with two steals.
Lincoln (0-3) led 18-14 at the end of the first quarter, but St. Louis Pharmacy (4-2) came back in the second period to send the game into halftime tied at 31. In the third quarter, four-straight points from Chigbu led to Lincoln taking a 41-35 lead, and the Blue Tigers ultimately took a 52-44 advantage into the final 10 minutes.
With 6:42 remaining, the Blue Tigers led the Eutectics 59-51, but a three-pointer launched STLCOP onto an 8-3 run to get back in the ballgame. Heading into the final two minutes of the game, Lincoln led by five, but the Eutectics kept the Blue Tigers off the board the rest of the way.
St. Louis Pharmacy took its first lead since the 7:43 mark of the second period on a pair of free throws with 11 seconds remaining in the contest. Lincoln drove down the court and ended up being sent to the free throw line for a chance to win the game, but both attempts bounced off the rim, and the Eutectics secured both the rebound and the victory.
Natasha Dolinsky and
Natasha Elliott each finished with eight points, with Dolinsky also providing four rebounds, a block and a pair of assists. Virjay Lewis grabbed seven rebounds and ended the day with three points and an assist, while
Kiara Shoulders closed out the scoring with three points, five boards and a game-high seven assists.
Anna Munoz Vidueira also represented Lincoln with two rebounds.
The Blue Tigers will be back at Jason Gym on Wednesday (Nov. 20) to play MacMurray at 6:00 p.m. CST.
