JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Northeastern State closed the game on a 13-3 run to hand the Lincoln women's basketball team a 73-68 loss on Thursday (Jan. 24).
Lincoln (9-8, 1-7 MIAA) trailed 22-17 after the first quarter, but out-scored Northeastern State (5-13, 2-7 MIAA) 19-13 in the second to take a one-point lead at halftime. The Blue Tigers held serve in the third quarter, taking a 58-54 lead into the final 10 minutes.
The Blue Tigers led for nearly the entire fourth quarter, including holding a 65-60 advantage with 5:39 to play. Northeastern State, which shot .460 overall and .500 from three-point range for the ballgame, limited LU to just three points the rest of the way to complete its comeback. LU finished .387 from the floor and .308 from long distance.
Lincoln forced the RiverHawks into 19 turnovers while committing just 10, but Northeastern State out-gained LU on the glass, 41-30. LU scored 30 points off turnovers and had 14 second-chance points, but NSU got 18 points from its bench.
Offensively,
Zhanesha Dickerson led LU with 19 points while
Alecia Gulledge scored 15 and
Kaloni Pryear chipped in 14. Dickerson also had six rebounds while Gulledge grabbed seven to go with a pair of assists and a steal. Pryear, meanwhile, finished with a pair of rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Kiara Shoulders added nine points, five boards, a pair of assists and a block, and
Zoi Thompson came off the bench to score six points.
Bre Coleman closed the scoring for LU with five points, seven boards, a block, a steal and two assists.
Lincoln will be back at home on Saturday (Jan. 26) as the Blue Tigers host Central Oklahoma at 1:00 p.m. CST.
