Blue Tigers Fall in Final Road Games of 2018

PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Lincoln softball team fell to Pittsburg State in its final road games of 2018 on Wednesday evening (April 18). The Blue Tigers dropped the opener, 10-1, and lost the second, 19-1.

Tori Nienhueser gave LU an early 1-0 lead in the first game by scoring on a sacrifice fly hit by Emily Williams. Nienhueser also had a hit in the contest. Alyssa Schulte, meanwhile, notched two strikeouts in the circle.

Pittsburg State (21-30, 11-11 MIAA) evened the score in the bottom of the second on a solo homerun, but the two teams kept each other off the board over the next two frames. The Gorillas then brought in nine runs in the bottom of the fifth, capped off by a grand slam.

Lincoln (5-39, 0-22 MIAA) was led defensively by Mykenzie Livesay and Jordan Lawson with three putouts apiece. Nienhueser and Rachael Balke, meanwhile, each recorded an assist.

In the second game, Pittsburg State scored multiple runs in each of the first four frames, and finished with a 17-7 advantage in hits. Schulte led the third inning off with a single and later scored on a base hit by Livesay for LU's run.

Livesay and Lawson each had two hits while Schulte, Camryn Pryor and Chelsey Kerr each had one apiece. Madison Ragar notched two strikeouts as Lincoln's starting pitcher while Delayne Patton, the closer, had one. Balke and Pryor both had three putouts and Schulte recorded two assists.

The Blue Tigers will return home on Friday (April 20) to host Central Missouri in a 2:00 p.m. CDT contest.
