Blue Tigers Fall to Missouri Western

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team was held to five hits as Missouri Western handed the Blue Tigers a pair of losses on Saturday afternoon (March 10). The Griffons claimed the first game of the double-header, 9-1, and took the second, 11-1.

Camryn Pryor and Tori Nienhueser had the hits for Lincoln (3-13, 0-4 MIAA) in game one, with Pryor scoring in the third inning on a ground out by Mykenzie Livesay after leading off the frame with a double. Missouri Western (6-13, 3-1 MIAA) got on the board in the first inning on a sacrifice fly, then scored four times in the third before Pryor put LU on the scoreboard. MWSU closed the opener with two runs in each of the fourth and sixth frames.

Madison Ragar had a strikeout in the circle, and Kiley Kerr led LU with four putouts while Rachael Balke was next with three. Pryor, Livesay, Jordan Lawson and Chelsey Kerr accounted for two putouts apiece.

In the second game, Paige Parker went 2-for-2 at the plate while Kiley Kerr had a hit and the Blue Tigers' only RBI. Neither team scored in the first inning, though Lincoln did load the bases, but the Griffons broke through with two runs in the top of the second. MWSU went on to score four times in both the third and fourth innings before ending the game in the fifth with an RBI triple.

Lincoln's run came in the bottom of the fourth, as Alyssa Schulte reached on a walk before a double from Parker advanced her to third. Another walk loaded the bases, and Kiley Kerr hit a slow bouncer towards the third baseman. The Griffons were not able to react in time to get an out, and Schulte crossed the plate to put Lincoln back on the scoreboard.

Parker also led LU defensively with five putouts, and Chelsey Kerr turned three assists. Livesay and Nienhueser posted two assists apiece.

Lincoln will be back at LU Softball Field on Wednesday (March 14) to host Missouri S&T for a double-header starting at 2:00 p.m. CST.
