ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Lincoln softball team recorded six hits but stranded eight runners on base as the Blue Tigers fell to Missouri S&T in their season-opener on Saturday morning (Feb. 3). The Miners used 11 hits to beat the Blue Tigers, 14-1.
Missouri S&T (2-1) scored five runs in both the second and third frames to pull away early for the win. Lincoln got on the board in the fifth inning as
Jordan Lawson drove in
Rachael Balke on a line drive into centerfield. Lawson would eventually make her way to third as a pair of walks allowed LU to load the bases, but a ground out ended the contest.
Six different Blue Tigers accounted for the hits, as Balke,
Chelsey Kerr,
Emily Williams,
Tori Nienhueser and
Mykenzie Livesay joined Lawson in providing LU's offense.
Madison Ragar and
Alyssa Schulte, meanwhile, each reached base three times throughout the course of the contest.
Schulte notched a strikeout in a closing role for the Blue Tigers, and
Camryn Pryor led the LU defense with four putouts. Nienhueser and
Kiley Kerr each recorded two putouts, with Nienhueser also leading Lincoln with a pair of assists.
The Blue Tigers will play again on Saturday when Lincoln takes on Christian Brothers at 1:00 p.m. CST.
