Lincoln Beats MWSU For Fourth Win in Past Five Games


ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Four Blue Tigers scored in double figures as the Lincoln men's basketball team beat Missouri Western, 81-72, on Saturday (Feb. 3) to earn its fourth win in its past games.

Terrance Smith led all players with 26 points while grabbing three rebounds, and Calvin Chambers scored 13 to go with four boards and a team-high seven assists. Maurice Mason was next in both scoring (17 points) and assists (four) while John Burton contributed 15 points, two steals and a team-high eight rebounds.

Lincoln (12-11, 6-8 MIAA) led from nearly start to finish, shooting .463 from the floor and .462 from beyond the arc, sinking 12 treys in the process. The Blue Tigers also led Missouri Western (4-16, 2-11 MIAA) in rebounding, 37-30, and received 19 points off the bench compared to just eight by the Griffons.

The Blue Tigers led by as many as 14 in the first half before Missouri Western used a 9-4 run over the final 3:17 of the period to send the game into halftime with a 39-30 LU lead. MWSU began the second half hot, pulling to within one on a pair of free throws with 14:29 to play. Marquise Williams ended the run with a layup, however, and Lincoln scored the next eight points to re-take control of the game.

Williams finished with six points and five rebounds while Alexander Nailes grabbed four boards and Paris Parham contributed three as well as a block and a steal. Amariontez Ivory closed the scoring with four points and three rebounds.

Lincoln will be on the road for the final time in the regular season in seven days, as the Blue Tigers travel to St. Charles, Mo. next Saturday (Feb. 10) to play Lindenwood. Tip-off for that contest is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CST.
