JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team led for much of the first three quarters, but William Jewell pulled away in the fourth to hand the Blue Tigers their first home loss of the season. Lincoln fell, 76-70, to the Cardinals on Saturday evening (Dec. 15).
Zhanesha Dickerson posted her seventh double-double of the season, leading Lincoln (7-2) with 24 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks.
Bre Coleman came close to doubling up as well, finishing with 17 points, eight boards and a pair of assists.
The Blue Tigers opened the game on a 9-0 run, but William Jewell (6-4) rallied to tie the game at 15 entering the second period. Lincoln led 33-27 at halftime, and was up by nine early in the third quarter, but a three-pointer with five seconds remaining sent the game into the fourth with WJC up, 55-54.
The Cardinals, who led for nearly the entire final 10 minutes, became the first team all season to shoot better than .500 against the Blue Tigers, as William Jewell was .522 from the floor as well as .444 from long range. Lincoln shot .403 overall, but was held to just four treys in 23 tries (.174). LU out-rebounded WJC, 36-32, and scored 19 second chance points, but the Cardinals responded with 19 points off turnovers.
Zoi Thompson finished with nine points, a team-high six assists, three boards, a block and a steal.
Tempary Gunter added eight point and two boards, and
Kaloni Pryear contributed four points, a steal and an assist.
Alecia Kaelke and
Alecia Gulledge finished with three points apiece, with Kaelke tallying a steal and Gulledge pulling down four rebounds.
Shannyn Triplett rounded out the scoring with two points, a rebound and a steal, while
Kiara Shoulders closed out LU with three rebounds and an assist.
The Blue Tigers will play again on Tuesday (Dec. 18) as Lincoln travels to Fayette, Iowa to take on Upper Iowa in a 6:00 p.m. CST contest.
