TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Bre Coleman posted her fourth double-double of the season, but Northeastern State pulled away late to hand the Lincoln women's basketball team a 69-58 loss on Saturday (Jan. 6).
Coleman led Lincoln with 15 points and 12 rebounds and additionally provided a block, an assist and a steal as the Blue Tigers forced NSU into 19 turnovers while only committing 12. Robin Butler added 12 points and five boards, but Northeastern State won the battle on the glass with 41 rebounds to LU's 38.
Lincoln (3-11, 0-6 MIAA) led by as many as six in the first quarter, and took 17-15 lead on a
Naomi Bryant layup before a trey allowed Northeastern State (7-6, 3-3 MIAA) to end the opening period with a one-point advantage. The second quarter belonged to the RiverHawks, who out-scored Lincoln, 16-6, to take a 34-23 lead at the intermission.
The Blue Tigers played the RiverHawks close in the third quarter, but opened the final period on a 12-0 run to tie the score at 51 on a Butler free throw with 5:21 remaining. The next five points belonged to NSU, but Coleman hit a layup to pull the Blue Tigers back within three at the 3:42 mark. NSU answered with a quick bucket of its own, and held off the Blue Tigers the rest of the way.
Tyler Brown-Henderson scored eight points and had three rebounds while Bryant ended her day with a pair of rebounds. Citlali Lopez dished a team-high eight assists to go with six points and four steals, and Faith Brintle totaled seven points, two assists and a pair of takeaways.
Charnai Anderson recorded two points and a pair of steals, and
Tempary Gunter and Karissa Black rounded out the scoring with three points apiece, with Gunter also grabbing two rebounds. Alecia Kaelke, meanwhile, had three boards and an assist.
Lincoln will return home for its next two games, beginning on Thursday evening (Jan. 11) with a 5:30 p.m. CST contest against Pittsburg State.
