JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team gave Pittsburg State all it could handle on Thursday night (Jan. 11), but the Gorillas made a few more plays at the end to escape Jason Gym with a 69-61 win.
Faith Brintle led the Blue Tigers offensively with 18 points,
Tempary Gunter added and a pair of assists, and Robin Butler provided 12 points and four boards. Bre Coleman and Citlali Lopez tied for the team-lead with seven rebounds apiece, with Coleman scoring eight points and Lopez tallying five points, three steals and two assists.
Lincoln (3-12, 0-7 MIAA) and Pittsburg State (12-4, 5-2 MIAA) were nearly even in field goals, as LU shot .420 from the floor and PSU shot .429, with both teams making 21 buckets. The Blue Tigers out-rebounded the Gorillas, 32-28, and made 10 of their 13 free throws while Pittsburg State shot just .594 at the line. The Gorillas held a 19-16 advantage after the first quarter, but Lincoln rallied to tie the game at 32 entering halftime. The Blue Tigers briefly took the lead on a pair of Coleman free throws early in the third, but Pittsburg State came back to finish the period up 53-50 on the scoreboard.
