JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Citlali Lopez, Robin Butler and
Tempary Gunter all scored in double figures, but Missouri Southern beat the Lincoln women's basketball team, 77-55, on Saturday (Jan. 13).
Lopez led LU with 16 points and dished three assists to go with two steals. Butler added 12 points and five rebounds, and Gunter ended the day with 10 points, three assists and a team-high seven rebounds. Bre Coleman came off the bench to provide six points, four boards, a pair of takeaways and a block, while Tyler Brown-Henderson contributed five points, five rebounds and two steals.
Lincoln (3-13, 0-8 MIAA) scored the first five points of the contest, but faced a 19-11 hole at the end of the first quarter. Missouri Southern (9-7, 6-2 MIAA) scored 52 points over the next two periods, and shot .458 from the floor to secure the victory. The Lions also scored 26 points at the free throw line and defensively limited the Blue Tigers to .299 shooting overall and .276 shooting from long range.
Davenport Brantley scored three points, Lajanea Kimbrough tallied two points, two boards and a block, and Karissa Black added three boards and two steals to the LU cause. Kailey Foster made a free throw to close the scoring and tied for the team-lead with three assists. Alecia Kaelke made her first start of the season and finished with three rebounds and an assist.
Lincoln next plays on Thursday (Jan. 18) as the Blue Tigers travel to Warrensburg, Mo. to take on Central Missouri in a 5:30 p.m. CST contest.
