WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team trailed the No. 10 team in the country by just three points entering the fourth quarter, but Central Missouri ended up escaping with a 71-53 win over the Blue Tigers on Thursday (Jan. 18).
Bre Coleman came close to posting her fifth double-double up the year, finishing with 13 points, eight rebounds, a block, an assist and a steal. Citlali Lopez added 10 points and a team-high four steals while Lajanea Kimbrough was next on the scoring chart with seven points.
Lincoln (3-14, 0-9 MIAA) trailed Central Missouri (14-1, 8-0 MIAA) 38-31 at halftime, and the Jennies built an 11-point lead with 3:42 remaining the third quarter. Kimbrough scored the next five points, however, to spring the Blue Tigers onto a 10-2 run the end the period, closing the gap down to 50-47.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Jennies, however, as UCM held the Blue Tigers to six points while making 14 free throws. The Blue Tigers were hotter overall from the floor, shooting .426 to Central Missouri's .375. Lincoln also held the Jennies to just three buckets from three-point range, but was out-rebounded, 37-27, and forced into 19 turnovers.
Tyler Brown-Henderson and Davenport Brantley each finished with six points, and
Tempary Gunter chipped in five while Charnai Anderson provided four points and a pair of assists. Robin Butler closed the scoring with two points, a pair of blocks and three rebounds.
Also representing LU on the court were Amber Braxton, who pulled down three rebounds, and Kailey Foster, who finished with one rebound.
Lincoln will continue its MIAA slate on the road on Saturday (Jan. 20) with a 1:30 p.m. CST game in Bolivar, Mo. against Southwest Baptist.
