BOLIVAR, Mo. - Neither team shot the ball very well, but Southwest Baptist did just enough with its opportunities to beat the Lincoln women's basketball team on Saturday (Jan. 20). The Bearcats led for nearly the entire game en route to a 79-49 win over the Blue Tigers.
Lincoln (3-15, 0-10 MIAA) shot .214 from the floor while Southwest Baptist (12-6, 4-5 MIAA) shot .393 overall and .250 from beyond the arc. Both teams rebounded well, with SBU securing 49 boards and LU grabbing 42, though the Blue Tigers held a 20-13 advantage on the offensive glass.
The Blue Tigers forced Southwest Baptist into 19 turnovers, but the biggest difference in the contest came at the line, as the Bearcats made 31 of their 34 free throw attempts. SBU also out-scored LU, 26-14, in the paint and held a 17-14 advantage in points off of turnovers.
Bre Coleman led Lincoln with 12 points and grabbed five rebounds to go with a pair of assists and two steals. Amber Braxton and Tyler Brown-Henderson tied for the team lead with seven rebounds apiece, with Braxton tallying two points and a block. Brown-Henderson, meanwhile, chipped in eight points.
Faith Brintle added eight points, Kailey Foster tallied three and Robin Butler finished with two. Citlali Lopez scored three points and had a pair of steals, and Alecia Kaelke added three points and five boards.
Tempary Gunter and Davenport Brantley each had two rebounds, with Gunter additionally recording a steal, and Charnai Anderson rounded out the scoring with six points.
The Blue Tigers will be back in Jefferson City on Thursday night (Jan. 25) to play Fort Hays State at 5:30 p.m. CST.
