Blue Tigers Fall to No. 16 Central Oklahoma

EDMOND, Okla. - Faith Brintle scored 12 points and Bre Coleman tallied eight points and eight rebounds, but the Lincoln women's basketball team fell to Central Oklahoma on Thursday evening (Jan. 4). The Blue Tigers dropped an 81-39 decision to the Bronchos, who are ranked No. 16 in the current WBCA Division II national poll.

Brintle also dished three assists and pulled down three rebounds and Coleman added a block for Lincoln (3-10, 0-5 MIAA), which was held to 13 field goals on the evening. The Blue Tigers forced Central Oklahoma (13-1, 4-1 MIAA) into 12 turnovers, but the Bronchos shot .453 from the floor en route to the win.

Tempary Gunter was next on the scoring chart for LU with five points and four boards, and Citlali Lopez scored four points and grabbed four rebounds while posting team-highs in both assists (four) and steals (three). Naomi Bryant contributed four points and three rebounds, and Amber Braxton closed out the scoring with three points and five boards.

Lincoln played the nationally-ranked Bronchos tight in the first half, as a trey by Brintle and a layup from Lopez respectively cut the UCO lead down to one late in the first quarter. The Bronchos ended the opening stanza with a 15-12 lead, but LU stormed back to take a 19-18 advantage on a layup from Brintle with 7:54 until halftime. UCO would close the half on a 22-5 run, however, to take control of the contest.

Tyler Brown-Henderson and Karissa Black each provided LU with five rebounds, and Alecia Kaelke and Charnai Anderson each contributed two, with Kaelke also recording a steal.

The Blue Tigers will remain in Oklahoma on Saturday (Jan. 6) to play Northeastern State at 1:30 p.m. CST.
