ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team recorded nine hits, but lost both games of a double-header to Lindenwood on Saturday afternoon (April 8). Lindenwood pulled away late for an 11-1 win over Lincoln in the first game and took the second contest by an 8-1 final.
Lindenwood (15-18, 6-10 MIAA) struck first in the opener, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first and three more in the second. Lincoln (5-31, 2-14 MIAA) answered in the bottom half of the second, as
Chelsey Kerr scored on a fielder's choice. She had previously reached base by hitting a double before taking third on a fielding error.
Mykenzie Livesay and
Sarah Westhoff also had hits during Saturday's first game, but both players ended up being stranded on base. The Lady Lions, meanwhile, managed to plate three more runs in the both the third and fifth frames to earn the five-inning victory.
Tori Nienhueser led LU defensively with four putouts and four assists.
Macie Kinsey was responsible for three putouts while
Kiley Kerr,
Chelsey Kerr and Livesay each registered two apiece. Livesay and
Jordan Lawson also had assists.
In the second game of the day, Lindenwood opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the second, and eventually built an 8-0 lead before the Blue Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the sixth.
Chelsey Kerr was once again the run scorer, as reached on a base hit before coming home on a triple by Lawson.
Lawson finished with two hits in the later contest while Livesay, Nienhueser and
Lauren Morrow each had hits as well. Westhoff threw a strikeout in the circle, and Kinsey tallied a team-high 11 putouts. Nienhueser provided five assists, followed by Westhoff with three and Lawson with two.
The Blue Tigers will step out of conference play on Tuesday (April 11) to travel to Liberty, Mo. for a double-header against William Jewell. First pitch for those games is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CDT.
