Blue Tigers Drop Non-Conference Twinbill

LIBERTY, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team resumed its season with a pair of non-conference contests at William Jewell on Tuesday (April 11), with the Cardinals emerging as the victors in both games. The Blue Tigers dropped the opener, 7-1, and fell in the second game, 12-0.

Timely pitching by Macie Kinsey kept the game tight early, as William Jewell (19-17) held just a 2-0 lead over Lincoln (5-33) heading into the top of the fifth. Jordan Lawson opened that frame off with a double, and an error moved her to third base and gave LU two base-runners with no outs. Kiley Kerr drove in Lawson with a single, but a strikeout ended Lincoln's best opportunity of the afternoon to tie the game.

In the bottom of the fifth, William Jewell scored four runs on seven hits, and the Cardinals later added another score in the sixth en route to the six-run win. The Blue Tigers finished the game with seven hits, including three by Sarah Westhoff and one each from Kinsey and Lauren Morrow.

Kinsey notched two strikeouts in the circle, and Mykenzie Livesay led the LU defense with four assists. Livesay, Westhoff and Kinsey each recorded three putouts.

In the second game, the Blue Tigers were limited to four hits, including one by Westhoff, who continued her hot streak with a base hit in the top of the fourth. Morrow also had a hit in that inning, but the Blue Tigers left two runners on base as WJC forced a fly-out to end the inning.

Kinsey and Paige Parker also had hits for Lincoln, but the Cardinals managed to plate multiple runs in three of the game's five innings to earn the sweep. Lawson and Tori Nienhueser each had three putouts for the Blue Tigers while Nienhueser, Lawson and Livesay each turned an assist.

The Blue Tigers will continue non-conference play on Wednesday (April 12) as Lincoln hosts Lindenwood for a double-header beginning at 3:00 p.m. CDT.
