PITTSBURG, Kan. - Bre Coleman and
Tempary Gunter combined to tally 31 points and six steals, but the Lincoln women's basketball team ended up on the losing end of a 69-47 decision to Pittsburg State on Saturday (Dec. 9).
Coleman posted her second-consecutive double-double, finishing with 16 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks and three steals. Gunter also had three takeaways and chipped in 15 points to go with four boards and an assist. Lajanea Kimbrough, meanwhile, added six points, four rebounds and a block.
Lincoln (3-6, 0-2 MIAA) was out-scored 18-5 in the first half, and trailed Pittsburg State (8-2, 2-0 MIAA), 39-20, entering halftime. The Blue Tiger offense picked up in the second half, as LU scored 25 points in the third period to pull within 12 of the Gorillas. LU held PSU to just .179 shooting beyond the arc and .350 overall for the game, but could not overcome Pittsburg State's hot first-quarter performance.
Faith Brintle, Citlali Lopez and Kailey Foster each dished two assists apiece, with Brintle also recording five points and three rebounds. Lopez scored three and finished second on the team with six rebounds, and Foster provided two boards and a steal. Robin Butler rounded out the scoring with two points, two boards, a block and a steal.
Lincoln will have a week to prepare for its next test, as LU returns to Jefferson City next Saturday (Dec. 16) to host Emporia State at 1:30 p.m. CST.
