JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team turned on its offense in the second half, but the five-time reigning MIAA Champions held off the Blue Tigers as Emporia State claimed a win on Saturday (Dec. 16). Emporia State out-scored the Blue Tigers in all four quarters en route to a 72-50 victory.
Karissa Black led a balanced LU scoring attack with 10 points to go with three steals and two rebounds. Faith Brintle added nine points and five takeaways, and
Tempary Gunter was next with seven points and three boards. Citlali Lopez and Tyler Brown-Henderson each scored five points, with Lopez dishing a team-high four assists and Brown-Henderson pulling down five rebounds.
Lincoln (3-7, 0-3 MIAA) held the typically hot-shooting Lady Hornets to just a .393 accuracy rate for the game and allowed Emporia State (7-2, 3-0 MIAA) to make just three of its 15 tries from long distance. ESU finished with a 51-31 advantage in rebounding, but the Blue Tigers forced the Lady Hornets into 19 turnovers and finished with 10 steals to Emporia State's seven. Lincoln shot .414 in the second half and scored 31 points.
Robin Butler provided Lincoln with six points, five rebounds and a block, and Bre Coleman also rejected a shot while tallying three points. Kailey Foster grabbed five rebounds and contributed two points to the LU cause, while Alecia Kaelke added two points and
Naomi Bryant made a free throw. All 10 players who represented Lincoln in the ballgame scored at least one point.
The Blue Tigers will remain at home on Monday (Dec. 18) to host Washburn at 5:30 p.m. CST.
