JOPLIN, Mo. - Bre Coleman had a double-double and Citlali Lopez scored career-high 30 points, but the Lincoln women's basketball team dropped a 94-90 decision to Missouri Southern in double-overtime on Thursday (Dec. 7).
The Blue Tigers trailed by five entering the fourth quarter, and trailed by as many as eight before rallying to tie the contest at 67 on a Faith Brintle layup with 3:07 remaining. MSSU scored three of the next four points to regain the lead, but a layup from Coleman knotted the score back up at 72 with 35 seconds remaining in regulation. Coleman finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds and two steals while Brintle added 11 points, two assists and a pair of takeaways.
Missouri Southern (2-7, 1-2 MIAA) missed a pair of free throws on the ensuing possession, giving Lincoln a chance for a game-winning shot with 6.6 ticks left on the clock. A contested jumper in the paint by Lopez was no good, however, and the contest went to overtime.
The first points of overtime went to Missouri Southern, but Lincoln (3-5, 0-1 MIAA) answered with a three by Lopez that gave LU its first lead since the second quarter. Lopez, who added four rebounds and two assists to her game-high point total, later hit a free throw to give Lincoln a 78-76 advantage with 1:09 remaining. The teams traded layups before MSSU made a pair of shots at the line to tie the game at 80. Kailey Foster attempted to give Lincoln the win, but her three-pointer as time expired went in and out of the hoop.
Missouri Southern controlled the second overtime period, eventually taking a seven-point lead with 15 seconds remaining. Lopez hit a quick three, and Brintle scored on a fastbreak layup to cut the MSSU lead to 92-90, but the Lions made two final shots at the line to seal the win.
Lajanea Kimbrough added 19 points and seven rebounds to the Blue Tiger effort, and Foster contributed four points and four boards. Robin Butler and
Naomi Bryant each scored two points, with Butler also pulling down a pair of rebounds, and Davenport Brantley made a free throw to close out the scoring. Charnai Anderson and
