JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - It was a tale of two halves on Monday night (Dec. 18) as Washburn scored 45 points over the final 20 minutes to hand the Lincoln men's basketball team a 77-63 defeat.
The first half largely belonged to the Blue Tigers, who shot ,522 from the floor and .429 from long distance while out-rebounding the Ichabods, 18-10. Lincoln (5-7, 0-4 MIAA) led by as many as 12 and held an eight-point advantage with 1:24 to play before five late points allowed Washburn (9-3, 4-0 MIAA) to cut lead down to 35-32 at halftime.
Maurice Mason scored all 10 of his points in the game's first 20 minutes, and finished with four assists and four steals, both game highs. Terrance Smith led LU with 19 points and had a pair of blocks while John Burton and Marquise Williams each scored nine. Burton additionally grabbed five rebounds and dished two assists while Williams had four boards.
The second half was a different story, however, as Washburn shot .552 overall and .571 from three-point land while respectively limiting Lincoln .269 and .133 shooting. The Ichabods also grabbed 20 rebounds to Lincoln's 12 as both teams finished the contest with 30 boards.
Grant Olsson contributed six points and six rebounds, and Amariontez Ivory added six points, two assists and a pair of blocks. Calvin Chambers and Donte Makazu rounded out the scoring with two points apiece, and the the two of them joined
Alexander Nailes with two boards each.
Lincoln will be off for the holiday break until Dec. 30, when the Blue Tigers close a three-game homestand by hosting Robert Morris-Peoria. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CST.
