KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Amariontez Ivory hit a three with four seconds remaining in overtime and Terrance Smith blocked a last-second shot by Truman State to give the Lincoln men's basketball team an 85-84 win on Tuesday night (Nov. 28).
Ivory led all scorers with 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds to go with two steals. Marquise Williams posted his third double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Smith finished with 11 points for the Blue Tigers, who improved to 4-3 on the season with their first true road win of 2017-18.
Truman State (3-3) held a 40-32 lead at halftime, led by as many as 13 early in the second half, and had a 10-point cushion with 4:10 to play in regulation. Williams hit a layup and Ivory made a jumper to spring the Blue Tigers onto a 13-3 lead, with Calvin Chambers tying the contest at 67 on a trey with 1:15 remaining.
The Bulldogs hit a pair of free throws and a jumper down the stretch to regain a four-point lead, but John Burton was fouled on a successful three-pointer off a dish by Chambers with 18 ticks left on the clock. Burton made the shot at the stripe, sending the contest into overtime. Chambers finished with 13 points and five assists while Burton scored 16 to go with two dimes and three steals.
Ivory scored the first points of the extra frame on a pair of free throws, and Burton hit another trey to give LU a 76-71 advantage. A layup from Smith later made it a 78-75 affair with 1:30 to play, but three consecutive free throws allowed Truman State to knot the score back up at 78.
Back-to-back three-pointers by the Bulldogs put Lincoln into an 84-82 hole with 11 seconds remaining, but Ivory's three-pointer and Smith's block allowed Lincoln to complete its rally. For the game, Lincoln shot .432 from the floor, out-rebounded the Bulldogs 45-40, and pressured Truman State into 15 turnovers.
Zack Fields contributed three points, two boards and a pair of steals to the winning cause, and Dante Makazu pulled down seven rebounds to go with a made free throw. Paris Parham also had a rebound while Grant Olsson closed the scoring with two points.
Lincoln next returns home on Saturday (Dec. 2) to host Robert Morris-Springfield at 3:30 p.m. CST.
