SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Lincoln men's basketball team out-rebounded William Jewell, 45-36, but lost the turnover battle en route to a 92-76 loss on Friday (Nov. 24). The contest was played on a neutral court on Drury University's campus as part of the
Doubletree/Houlihan's Thanksgiving Classic.
John Burton led the Blue Tigers with 23 points, Terrance Smith added 20 and Amariontez Ivory chipped in 12 as Lincoln (3-2) shot .417 from the floor and hit seven treys. Burton additionally tied Marquise Williams for the team-lead with eight rebounds, with Williams also scoring eight points. Smith pulled down six rebounds and Ivory grabbed five.
William Jewell (6-0) pressured Lincoln into an uncharacteristically high 17 turnovers, and shot .484 overall to secure the victory. After a layup by Burton gave the Blue Tigers an eight-point lead with 6:46 to play in the first half, the Cardinals used a 19-6 run to enter halftime with a 44-39 lead. LU would later cut the WJC lead down to six on a jumper by Smith early in the second half, but William Jewell held off any hopes of a Blue Tiger comeback.
Zack Field scored six points, grabbed six boards and dished a team-high four assists while Calvin Chambers provided five points and four rebounds.
Alexander Nailes added two points to close the scoring, and Donte Makazu and Destiny Chikwem-Stanley each were credited with a pair of rebounds.
Lincoln remains in Springfield on Saturday (Nov. 25) to take on host Drury in a 3:15 p.m. CST contest.
