Blue Tigers Roll to 88-51 Home-Opening Win


JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - John Burton scored 25 points, Amariontez Ivory chipped in 24 and the Lincoln men's basketball team earned an 88-51 victory over Missouri S&T in its home opener on Tuesday night (Nov. 14).

Lincoln (2-1) shot .557 from the floor and .462 from long distance while creating 15 turnovers and out-rebounding the Miners 42-26. The Blue Tigers held Missouri S&T (0-2) to 19-for-57 shooting (.333) overall and just a .310 clip on three-point attempts.

LU used a 27-2 run over the final 8:45 of the first half to take a commanding 51-23 lead into the break. A layup by Burton gave Lincoln a 30-point lead early in the second half, and the Miners came no closer than 57-31 during the game's final 20 minutes. Burton additionally had a pair of assists and two steals, and Ivory dropped two dimes while grabbing four rebounds.

Marquise Williams pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds and contributed eight points, two assists, a block and a steal. Darrius Spencer came off the bench to provide two steals, six rebounds and four points as well as a block, while Paris Parham and Destiny Chikwem-Stanley each chipped in two points. Calvin Chambers posted a team-high seven assists to go with three points and three boards, and Zack Fields provided five assists along with a block and two rebounds.

Alexander Nailes also had four points and dished a pair of assists, and Terrance Smith joined Burton and Ivory in the double-digit club with 16 points and five rebounds. Dante Makazu contributed a pair of boards while Grant Olsson had one.

Lincoln heads to Kansas City, Mo. on Friday night (Nov. 17) for the Battle of the LU's, as the Blue Tigers take on Langston in IL Fieldhouse at 7:00 p.m. CST.
