JEFFERSON CITY, Mo - Missouri S&T scored a pair of early touchdowns and held on for a 37-3 win over the Lincoln football team on Saturday (Oct. 14).
The Miners scored on their first offensive play of the afternoon, connecting on a 44-yard pass after a 22-yard punt return. Missouri S&T (5-2, 3-0 GLVC) got back on the board a few minutes later, intercepting a pass and returning it into the end zone for a 14-0 lead with 11:24 to play.
Lincoln (1-5, 0-3 GLVC) started to click afterwards, and the defense limited the Miners to just seven points through the next 30 minutes and 30 seconds of play. The Blue Tigers, meanwhile, got onto the board with a 33-yard field goal by
Wolky Belancourt at the 9:08 mark of the second quarter.
Justin Korakakos gave the Blue Tigers two key first downs on that drive by hauling in passes of 11 and 18 yards.
Jervonta Jones forced a fumble and finished with nine tackles on the afternoon, including one for a loss.
Isaiah Gray had a fumble recovery and was credited with six tackles, including an assist on a sack.
Addison Tucker also assisted on a sack and tied Jones with nine takedowns.
Willard Cotton led the Blue Tigers with 11 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack while
JaJuan Chambers had two quarterback hurries.
Edwin Durassaint broke up a pass to go with five takedowns, and
Taj Moore was next with four tackles.
Anthony Mitchell also recorded a tackle for loss. As a team, the LU defense limited Missouri S&T to 176 passing yards.
On the offensive side of the ball,
Drake Davidson completed 21 passes for 190 yards, with Korakakos leading the way with six receptions for 56 yards.
Franklyn Richardson gained 46 yards on five catches, and
Blake Tibbs made four grabs for 45 yards.
Terry Hunter had 33 yards to lead the Lincoln rushing attack.
The Blue Tigers will be back at Dwight T. Reed Stadium next Saturday (Oct. 21) to host Indianapolis for a 5:00 p.m. CDT contest.
