JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Washburn took advantage of several big hits to hand the Lincoln baseball team a loss in the Blue Tigers' penultimate home game of the season on Sunday (April 24). It was Senior Day for LU, with graduating players
Nick Lovell,
Alex Ludwick,
Caleb Thomas and
Dillon Walker honored in a special pregame ceremony.
Lincoln's pitchers racked up eight strikeouts, with Thomas, the contest's starter, fanning five Ichabod batters.
Kyler Lundgrin,
Riley Crews and
Jameson Mahan each registered one strikeout apiece. Washburn's batters managed to hit seven homeruns, however, and finished with a 17-10 advantage in total hits.
Washburn (29-13, 24-8 MIAA) held a 7-0 lead before Lincoln (1-41, 0-32 MIAA) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth.
Mason Price led the frame off with a double, and a groundout allowed him to take third. Ludwick then brought him in with a sacrifice fly.
The Ichabods scored six unanswered runs before the Blue Tigers got back on the board in the bottom of the seventh.
Wyatt Ahart hit a line drive through the middle to get on base, and back-to-back base hits by Mahan and
Jake Walker allowed Ahart to score.
Jeffery Jackson brought in Mahan on a double into right field, and a WU throwing error plated
Jake Walker for LU's final run of the day.
Dillon Walker and Ahart each had two hits on the afternoon while Lovell and
Jackson Walker each had one. Ludwick led the defense with eight putouts,
Zach Anderson was next with four and Lovell and Price each finished with three. Ludwick also turned three assists while Lovell provided two.
The Blue Tigers will close out their 2016 home slate on Wednesday (April 27) with a 3:00 p.m. CDT contest against Lindenwood at LU Baseball Field.
