JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The hitting was fairly even, but Washburn took advantage of several Blue Tiger miscues as the Lincoln baseball team fell to the Ichabods, 11-1, on Saturday (April 23).
Washburn had 11 hits in the game, but Lincoln was close behind with seven, including two by
Mike Million. The Blue Tigers were charged with six errors, however, allowing the Ichabods to bring in five unearned runs.
Zach Maskill spent most of the game on the mound for LU and struck out two batters while
Zach Moore closed out the contest and notched one strikeout.
Neither team was able to push a run across the board in the first inning, but Washburn (28-13, 23-8 MIAA) scored five in the second frame to take an early lead. Lincoln (1-40, 0-31 MIAA) got one back in the bottom of the third, as
Kolton Clark led LU off with a single before scoring on a double by Million.
The Blue Tigers stranded seven base-runners throughout the course of the contest, including leaving the bags full in the sixth. Anderson led the inning off with a walk,
Laban Petzoldt had a base hit and an error later allowed
Daniel Castillo to safely reach base. WU turned a fielder's choice, however, to get out of the inning unscathed.
Dillon Walker,
Nick Lovell and
Alex Ludwick also had hits, while Million recorded a team-high seven putouts and
Kaleb Davis was next with six. Walker led the Blue Tigers with five assists while Lovell tallied two.
Lincoln will host Washburn one final time in 2016 on Sunday (April 24) with the two teams meeting at LU Baseball Field for a 12:00 p.m. CDT contest. Sunday is Senior Day, with a special ceremony planned prior to the game to honor graduating players Lovell, Ludwick,
Caleb Thomas and Walker.
