PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Lincoln baseball team was held to three hits at Pittsburg State handed the Blue Tigers an 11-1 loss in the teams' series finale on Sunday (April 10).
The game was a pitcher's duel through the first five frames, with Pittsburg State (9-24, 4-20 MIAA) managing just two runs in that span. The Gorillas broke the game open with five scores in the sixth frame, and added two more in each of the seventh and eighth innings to end the contest a frame early.
Lincoln (1-33, 0-24 MIAA) scored its run in the top of the eighth, with
Kolton Clark reaching base on a walk. Clark then proceeded to steal second before taking third on a wild pitch. An error during
Dillon Walker's at-bat eventually allowed to Clark to score. Both Walker and
Nick Lovell reached scoring position later in the frame, but a strikeout ended the inning.
Walker led LU with two hits and
Laban Petzoldt had one. Starting pitcher
Zach Maskill struck out three batters and
Daniel Castillo fanned two while closer
Tyler Roberts notched one strikeout.
Defensively,
Alex Ludwick led the Blue Tigers with eight putouts while
Zach Anderson was next with seven. Lovell tallied six assists and Walker and Petzoldt each recorded two.
The Blue Tigers will return home on Wednesday (April 13) to begin a stretch where LU will play eight of its next games at home. On that day, Lincoln welcomes Lindenwood to LU Baseball Field for a 3:00 p.m. CDT contest.
