Lindenwood Takes Series Opener Over Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Lindenwood tallied 14 hits, including three homeruns, to hand the Lincoln baseball team a 10-2 loss in the first contest of the teams' three-game series on Wednesday (April 13).

The Lions scores on solo homeruns in the second and third frames, and used a triple and a ground-out in the fourth to take a 4-0 advantage. The Blue Tigers kept Lindenwood off the board in the fifth and sixth innings, but another solo homer in the top of the seventh pushed the Lions' lead to five.

Mason Price got the offense going in the bottom of the seventh with a base hit, and Jackson Walker put Lincoln (1-34, 0-25 MIAA) on the board with a double two at-bats later. Lindenwood (16-19, 10-15 MIAA) answered with two runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth before the Blue Tigers closed the scoring with one more run in the bottom of the final frame. Price got on board via a walk, and a base hit by Kaleb Davis, combined by a fielding error by the Lindenwood right fielder, allowed him to score from first.

Daniel Castillo opened the game on the mound and notched a strikeout while pitching four frames. Zach Moore pitched the next four innings and struck out three Lion batters while Cameron Massman closed the game. Jackson Walker finished with two hits.

Defensively, Davis led LU with nine putouts. Jackson Walker and Kolton Clark each finished with four while Laban Petzoldt and Mike Million tallied three apiece. Nick Lovell provided a team-best four assists while Dillon Walker, Petzoldt and Davis each finished with two.

The Blue Tigers will be back on their home field on Friday (April 15) to open a three-game series against Central Oklahoma with a 3:00 p.m. CDT contest.
