JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Through five of the game's seven innings, the Lincoln baseball team limited MIAA-leading Central Missouri to just one run. In the other two frames, however, UCM exploded for big offensive innings to hand LU a 16-0 loss on Friday (April 1).
Alex Ludwick had a single in the first inning, and
Jackson Walker hit a double in the second as Lincoln (1-27, 0-18 MIAA) tallied two hits before Central Missouri (17-8, 15-3 MIAA) even had one. The Mules scored an unearned run off a wild pitch in the top of the second, however, to take an early 1-0 lead through two.
In the third inning, UCM scored five runs off five hits. Those would be the only runs of the game until the top of the sixth, when the Mules posted 10 more scores to end the game two innings early.
Wyatt Ahart came in and pitched the final 1.2 innings for Lincoln, and allowed just one hit and no runs.
Cameron Massman was the first reliever for LU, and he threw 2.2 frames and gave up just two hits with no runs.
Zach Maskill started the game on the mound and struck out two UCM batters.
Laban Petzoldt also had a hit for Lincoln while
Mason Price reached base twice on walks. Defensively,
Kaleb Davis led the way with eight putouts and Ludwick recorded three.
Nick Lovell made three assists while
Dillon Walker had two.
The Blue Tigers will return to LU Baseball Field on Saturday (April 2) to host Central Missouri again at 1:00 p.m. CDT.
