NSU Takes Two From LU

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The Lincoln softball team resumed MIAA play on Saturday (March 12), dropping a pair of games on the road to Northeastern State. The RiverHawks won the first game, 7-0, and took the second, 9-2.

Lincoln got on the board first in the night cap, with Tori Nienhueser hitting a solo homerun in the top of the first for an early 1-0 Blue Tiger lead. Northeastern State responded in the bottom half of the opening frame, however, taking advantage of three hits to plate four runs.

The Blue Tigers came back in the second inning, opening the frame with back-to-back doubles by Spencer Silva and Sarah Westhoff to cut the NSU lead in half. That ended up being the final run of the day for Lincoln, however, as the RiverHawks closed the game with five unanswered runs.

Megan Heimbaugh led Lincoln (2-19, 1-5 MIAA) with five putouts, Avery Myers had four and Silva and Lauren Stamp each finished with two. Jessica Wolken posted a team-best two assists. Macie Kinsey pitched the complete game and struck out three Northeastern State (14-11, 2-4 MIAA) batters.

The RiverHawks also had a fast start in the first game, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first, including two on a homerun. Lincoln forced NSU to go three-and-out in the second and allowed just five and four at-bats in the next two frames, but Northeastern State came back to score once in each of the fifth and sixth innings.

Tori Nienhueser had both of Lincoln's hits in the opener while Madison Ragar had a strikeout in the circle. Heimbaugh and Hope McLeod each finished with a team-high five putouts while Kinsey was next with four. Wolken again had two assists.

The Blue Tigers will head to Edmond, Okla. on Sunday (March 13) to play Central Oklahoma in a 1:00 p.m. CDT double-header.
