Blue Tigers Fall in Double-Header at UCO

EDMOND, Okla. - The Lincoln softball team was held to eight hits as the Blue Tigers dropped both games of a double-header at Central Oklahoma on Sunday (March 13). The Blue Tigers lost the first game, 8-0, and dropped the second, 13-1, both in five innings.

Spencer Silva scored Lincoln's run in the second game, as a UCO throwing error allowed her to come in after rounding second on a base hit from Jessica Wolken. Spencer had initially reached on an infield single.

Those accounted for two of the five hits in the game for LU, with two of the others coming courtesy of Hope McLeod. Megan Heimbaugh also had a hit for Lincoln (2-21, 1-7 MIAA) in the night cap. Central Oklahoma (17-7, 5-3 MIAA), meanwhile, used 16 hits to plate 13 runs, including seven in the third inning to seize control of the contest.

Heimbaugh had a team-high four putouts and Macie Kinsey tallied three. Silva contributed two assists. Madison Ragar and Sarah Westhoff each struck out batters in a relief role.

In the opener, it was a six-run second inning that gave UCO the advantage, with the Bronchos closing the contest with two more runs in the fifth. In the other three frames, Lincoln played well defensively to strand Central Oklahoma runners on the base path.

Lincoln had opportunities to score in both the third and fifth innings. In the latter frame, Wolken was issued a walk and Kiley Kerr singled up the middle before a fielder's choice allowed Wolken to take third base. A line out, however, prevented her from scoring. In the third inning, a base hit from Avery Myers and a walk by Kerr gave LU a pair of base runners. UCO, however, was able to force two quick outs to preserve the shutout.

Silva also had a hit in the first game while Lauren Stamp led the LU defense with seven putouts. McLeod recorded two putouts while Tori Nienhueser had a team-high five assists. Westhoff also notched a strikeout in the circle.

Lincoln will remain on the road on Wednesday (March 16), as the Blue Tigers travel to St. Louis, Mo. to play a double-header against UMSL. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. CDT.
