KEARNEY, Neb. - Nebraska-Kearney out-scored the Lincoln women's basketball team 31-11 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 75-49 win over the Blue Tigers on Thursday (Feb. 18).
Zuri Hill and
Jasmine Guthrie each scored 10 points to lead Lincoln, with Hill grabbing six rebounds and Guthrie pulling down four. Hill also had a pair of steals.
Asia McCaskill led the team with eight boards and just missed double figures with nine points. McCaskill also recorded a block, a steal and an assist.
Nebraska-Kearny (13-12, 9-10 MIAA) led 14-7 after the first period and took a 29-20 halftime advantage after an evenly played second quarter. Lincoln (8-17, 4-15 MIAA) started to comeback in the second quarter, scoring 18 points, with a layup by McCaskill pulling LU to within five.
A layup from
Hunter Yoakum made it a 32-28 contest, but the Lopers answered with two points to take a six point advantage. The UNK lead hovered between four and six points for most of the third quarter until
Sarah Neptune drained a three to bring Lincoln to within 40-37 of the Lopers. Nebraska-Kearney closed the period on a 4-1 run, however, and scored the first five points of the fourth before pulling away for the win.
Yoakum finished with six points, three assists and two rebounds while Neptune and
Dorian Briggs each scored five points. Neptune also contributed four boards and an assist. Briggs led the Blue Tigers with four assists and had a steal and a rebound.
Narel dos Santos and
Azaria Nave closed the scoring with two points apiece, with Nave adding a rebound and an assist.
Lizzie Nessling, meanwhile, provided four rebounds and an assist to the Blue Tiger cause.
Up next for Lincoln is its final road game of the regular season, as the Blue Tigers will be in Hays, Kan. on Saturday (Feb. 20) to play Fort Hays State at 2:00 p.m. CST.
