JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -
Hunter Yoakum scored a career-high 30 points and five Blue Tigers grabbed at least five rebounds as the Lincoln women's basketball team defeated Stephens, 82-44, on Monday night (Nov. 21).
In addition to her game-high point total, Yoakum grabbed five rebounds, dished five assists and tallied three steals.
Azaria Nave added 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals while
Erica Gibbons totaled 11 points. Gibbons also blocked five shots and grabbed eight boards.
Lincoln (1-3) started off slow, shooting .176 from the floor as Stephens (1-7) took a 19-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was a different story altogether, as, on the back of 17 points by Yoakum, LU out-scored Stephens, 25-8, to take a 32-27 halftime lead. Lincoln shot .769 from the floor in the second period, including making both of its three-point attempts.
The hot shooting continued for LU in the second half, as the Blue Tigers were .556 from the floor in each of the final two periods. Lincoln also stepped up its rebounding, pulling down 47 boards while limiting the Stars to 32. The Blue Tigers ended up out-scoring the Stars, 21-7, in the third quarter, and allowed Stephens to score just 10 points in the final period.
Tyler Brown-Henderson led all players with 13 rebounds to go with two points and a pair of rebounds.
Tempary Gunter added seven boards, including six on offense, and scored four points to go with four assists and two steals.
Citlali Lopez finished with eight points and three rebounds for the Blue Tigers while
Kailey Foster rounded out the scoring with two points, a rebound and an assist.
Shamirah Johnson also represented LU with two rebounds.
The Blue Tigers will next be in action on Wednesday (Nov. 23), as Lincoln travels to Quincy, Ill. to play Quincy at 5:15 p.m. CST.
