INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - It was a three-point game at halftime, but Indianapolis took advantage of a couple turnovers to pull away for a 38-7 win over the Lincoln football team on Saturday night (Oct. 22).
The Blue Tigers rushed for 88 yards, with
Derrick Wilkerson gaining a career-high 61 yards on 13 carries.
Jordan Davis threw for 41 yards and gained another 11 on the ground.
Delvon Rouser led LU's receivers with three grabs for 41 yards and a score while
Anthony Townsend also had a three-yard reception.
Indianapolis (3-5, 2-3 GLVC) took a 10-point lead after the first quarter, scoring first on a 43-yard field goal and then later on a nine-yard run. Lincoln (1-7, 0-5 GLVC) shut the Greyhounds out in the second quarter, forcing four punts.
Marvin Holley also stripped the Greyhound quarterback of the ball on a sack, and the Blue Tigers fell on the ball to end Indianapolis' other drive of the quarter.
Lincoln's score came in the second quarter, and began with an eight-yard run by Davis. LU gained 29 yards on the ground on the drive, with Wilkerson and
Reko Lysius also rushing for positive yardage. Rouser then capped off the drive with a 28-yard touchdown reception, and
Alex Templeton converted the extra point to cut the Greyhounds' lead down to 10-7.
That ended up being the difference at halftime, but Indianapolis used a dominant third quarter to take control of the game. The Greyhounds scored on their opening drive, then recovered Lincoln fumbles on each of the following two possessions, converting those turnovers into touchdowns on each drive. Indianapolis later capped off the scoring with a five-yard touchdown run early in the final quarter.
Addison Tucker led Lincoln with 13 tackles, including 2.5 for loss, and Holley was next with 11 total takedowns.
Rashon Riddles broke up three passes while Tucker, Holley,
Phillip Kind and
Lawrence Hogue each had one break-up apiece. Kind tied
Aaron Brown with five tackles while Hogue,
Willard Cotton,
Anthony Mitchell and
Robby Dieujuste each made four tackles. Templeton, meanwhile, averaged 39.4 yards on punts and 62 yards on kickoffs.
Lincoln returns to Jefferson City next Saturday (Oct. 29) to host McKendree at 2:00 p.m. CT.
