Blue Tigers Fall to Missouri S&T


ROLLA, Mo. - Missouri S&T scored on six of its first eight possessions to hand the Lincoln football team a 65-16 loss on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 15).

For just the second time all season, the Lincoln defense allowed points in the opening quarter, as the Miners took a 20-6 lead through the first 15 minutes. LU's touchdown came on a tipped pass, as Chris Othelot came down with the ball and out-ran the Missouri S&T defense 74 yards for the score.

Missouri S&T (4-3, 3-1 GLVC) added two more touchdowns and a field goal in the second quarter before Lincoln (1-6, 0-4 GLVC) got back on the scoreboard in the waning seconds of the half. Alex Templeton hit a 50-yard field goal as time expired, making the score 37-9 entering the break.

The Blue Tigers added seven more points in the fourth quarter on a 13-yard touchdown reception by Deonte Latimer. The drive began with Anthony Townsend hauling in a 23-yard pass from Jordan Davis, who later gained 21 yards on a keeper to move into Missouri S&T territory.

Amani Nelson and Aaron Brown led LU defensively with seven tackles apiece while Lawrence Hogue and Rashon Riddles each finished with four. Hogue also blocked one of Missouri S&T's point-after kicks for the Blue Tigers' fourth block of the season. Addison Tucker added three tackles and an interception while Noah Johnson and Townsend each forced fumbles.

Johnson and Kadesh Reaves each had a sack, and Marvin Holley and Jeff Jones additionally tallied tackles for loss. Templeton, meanwhile, had a 74-yard punt, the second-longest in program history, and averaged 36.2 yards on punts and 58.0 yards on kickoffs. Darius Hicks and Reko Lysius each had a 21-yard return to aid the Lincoln cause in the kick return game.

Dennis Vinson completed 10 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown while Davis finished with 37 passing yards. Bryson Winfrey led the receiving corps with four catches, tying Lincoln's career reception record (143, set by Maurice Woodard). Latimer and C.J. Closser each made a pair of receptions while Will Randolph gained 35 yards on the ground.

The Blue Tigers will remain on the road next Saturday (Oct. 22), as Lincoln travels to Indianapolis, Ind. to play Indianapolis at  5:00 p.m. CDT.
