Blue Tigers Fall to Washburn on the Road

TOPEKA, Kan. - Washburn took advantage of a very hot first quarter to hand the Lincoln women's basketball team an 89-44 loss on Monday (Jan. 4).

Washburn (9-4, 5-2 MIAA) was very sharp offensively in the first quarter, taking an early 12-2 lead before closing the period with a 31-14 advantage. The Ichabods shot .923 from the floor in that period while holding Lincoln to just six made field goals. Lincoln (6-7, 2-5 MIAA) held WU to just 17 points in the second quarter, but the Ichabods maintained the lead through the rest of the contest.

Azaria Nave led Lincoln with 14 points and dished two assists while Zuri Hill finished with eight points and a team-best four rebounds. Dorian Briggs led LU with three assists while contributing six points and two rebounds.

Tempary Gunter scored five points and came down with three rebounds while Jasmine Guthrie and Lizzie Nessling finished with two points apiece. Naomi Bryant, playing for the first time in 2015-16, ended the night with five points and three rebounds.

Sarah Neptune grabbed three boards while Narel dos Santos finished with two. Nave and Guthrie each had steals for Lincoln, which won the turnover battle, 9-15.

Lincoln will be back at home for its next two games, beginning on Thursday (Jan. 7), when the Blue Tigers host Nebraska-Kearney at 5:30 p.m. CST. It will be Throwback Thursday, with senior citizens receiving free admission to the contest.
