JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Nebraska-Kearney out-rebounded the Lincoln women's basketball team, 52-22, en route to a 69-36 win over the Blue Tigers on Thursday (Jan. 7).
Nebraska-Kearney (7-7, 3-5 MIAA) raced out to an early 8-0 lead and ended the first quarter with a 21-7 advantage. Lincoln (6-8, 2-6 MIAA) only gave up 13 points in the second quarter while scoring 12 to go into the break down 34-19. The Blue Tigers then closed the gap down to 11 on a fast break layup by
Dorian Briggs with 7:32 showing on the third quarter clock, but the Lopers closed the period on a 23-4 run to end Lincoln's chance at a comeback.
Zuri Hill led the Blue Tigers with seven points and five rebounds while tallying two steals, an assist and a block. Briggs,
Sarah Neptune and
Jasmine Guthrie each scored six, with Briggs also grabbing four rebounds to go with three assists and a pair of steals. Guthrie also pulled down four rebounds and blocked two shots while registering a steal.
Azaria Nave and
Naomi Bryant each scored four, with Nave also grabbing three rebounds. Bryan had two boards and a block.
Hunter Yoakum rounded out the scoring with a made three-pointer while
Tempary Gunter contributed a rebound and a block to the LU cause.
The Blue Tigers will be back at home on Saturday (Jan. 9), hosting Fort Hays State at 1:30 p.m. CST. That game will be Civic Engagement Day, as members of local civic organizations will receive free admission to the contest while their guests will be able to purchase discounted $3 tickets.
