EMPORIA, Kan. - Four Blue Tigers scored in double figures, but the Lincoln women's basketball team fell to Emporia State, 101-76, on the road on Saturday (Jan. 2).
Dorian Briggs led Lincoln (6-6, 2-4 MIAA) with 19 points, five assists and two steals.
Azaria Nave finished with a career-high 18 points and grabbed five rebounds to go with three assists and a pair of steals.
Zuri Hill added 11 points and four rebounds while
Asia McCaskill tied for the team lead with six boards while chipping in 10 points and dishing four assists.
The two teams played each other close through much of the first quarter, with a layup by
Jasmine Guthrie pulling LU to within 11-10 of the Lady Hornets with 4:22 remaining. Guthrie was nearly Lincoln's fifth double-digit scorer, totaling nine points while pulling down three rebounds.
Emporia State (10-2, 4-2 MIAA), which entered the game ranked No. 3 in the most recent WBCA/USA Today Division II Coaches Poll, followed Guthrie's layup by going on a 12-0 run to take control of the game. The Lady Hornets shot .507 from the floor and out-rebounded Lincoln, 44-31, while blocking eight shots.
The Blue Tigers shot .417 from the floor but made only three shots from long distance. McCaskill and
Lizzie Nessling each blocked shots, with Nessling also grabbing six rebounds while dishing three assists and tallying three points. Narel Dos Santos added six points to the Lincoln cause while
Sarah Neptune had a rebound and a steal.
Lincoln will remain on the road for its next game, as the Blue Tigers head to Topeka, Kan. on Monday (Jan. 4) to play Washburn at 5:30 p.m. CST.
