Cavel Witter joined the Lincoln men's basketball program in 2018 and is in his third season as an assistant coach with the team.
In his first year with the program, Witter helped lead Lincoln to 18 victories and a fourth-straight postseason appearance, as the Blue Tigers beat Fort Hays State to advance to the semifinals of the MIAA Men's Basketball Championship. Witter worked with four players who earned all-conference recognition, including Terrance Smith, an All-MIAA second team selection. During the 2019-20 campaign, Witter helped LU reach the postseason once again, with the Blue Tigers defeating Central Oklahoma in the opening round of the MIAA Men's Basketball Championship.
Witter spent the 2017-18 season as an assistant coach at North Kansas City High, where he helped lead the team to a 27-3 record and a Suburban White Division Championship. Witter helped NKCHS win both the William Jewell Holiday Classic, Nelson Division and the Kearney Bulldog Classic.
An All-Missouri Valley Conference player at Creighton from 2007-10, Witter holds the program record for consecutive free throws made with 32. Witter was named to the MVC All-Bench team in 2008, and was the MVC Newcomer of the Week on March 3, 2007. During his sophomore season, Witter scored 42 points in a game, setting Quest Center record and ranking eighth in Creighton's all-time record book.
During his three years at Creighton, Witter helped the Blue Jays win 67 games and make three-straight postseason appearances, including two trips to the NIT. Witter averaged 7.2 points during his senior season and dished 217 assists throughout his career. In all three seasons, Witter ranked among Creighton's top-five scorers.
Following his collegiate career, Witter played internationally in Portugal and Germany before earning a spot on the Iowa Energy, a National Basketball Association D-League team, in 2015-16. Witter was selected to the All-German Bundesliga first team in 2013, was an All-Import first team honoree in Portgual in 2014 and was named to the 2015-16 Eurobasket.com All-German team.
Witter was a two-year letterwinner at Ruskin High and earned All-Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference first team accolades following each season. Witter also was named to the Missouri High School All-State team in 2006.
