A Jefferson City native and Helias High graduate, Andy Pitts is in his first season as the defensive backs coach at Lincoln.

Pitts spent 2016 as a defensive backs assistant at Northwest Missouri and, on Dec. 17, helped the Bearcats win the NCAA Division II national title. Pitts additionally served as the cornerbacks coach at St. Thomas in 2015, helping the program finish with a 14-1 record.

Prior to joining the college ranks, Pitts coached with his brother, current LU defensive coordinator Phil, at Helias from 2011-14. Pitts was the defensive coordinator for a program that set single-season records for sacks (44) and interceptions (22). Over the course of three of those seasons, the Crusaders' defense forced at least one turnover in 33-straight games.

Pitts joined the coaching staff at Helias in 2007, initially working with the cornerbacks for three seasons. Pitts then became the Crusaders' special teams coordinator, and coached an all-state kicker before transitioning into the defensive coordinator role. Pitts also worked with Helias' linebackers and safeties, and coached an all-state player in each position.

A three-time academic all-conference honoree as a football and baseball player at Truman State, Pitts graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science in 2006. Pitts is currently pursuing a master's degree in applied health and sports science from Northwest Missouri.
