THE KICK OFF:  The first two home games of the season await the Lincoln men's soccer team this week, as the Blue Tigers play twice at Capital City High School. LU, which has played three road matches to open the 2026 campaign, hosts McKendree on Wednesday (Sept. 9) in its first home contest of the season. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CDT. On Sunday (Sept. 13), Lincoln takes on Southwest Baptist at CCHS at 2:30 p.m. CDT. The Blue Tigers received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Division II poll and enter the week 1-0-2 overall and 0-0-1 in GLVC play. McKendree is 1-3 overall and 0-1 in league play while Southwest Baptist is 2-0-1 on the year and 0-0-1 against conference competition.

PREVIEWING THE BLUE TIGERS:  Vincent Osei has posted one shutout in 180:00 in goal while Felipe Mattos also has a shutout. Three Blue Tigers have scored a goal: Jerome Lawel, Pedro Gomes and Ackeem Mullings. Lawel has a team-high 12 shots attempts; he and Jonathan Nemorden each have four shots on goal. Makwe Nkoana has an assist and six shot attempts.
 
HEAD COACH SAMMY SAMUELS:  A proven winner, Sammy Samuels is in his third season as the head coach of the Lincoln men's soccer team. Last year, Samuels led the Blue Tigers to a 10-0-6 record in the regular season as well as a berth in the NCAA Sweet 16. During five seasons as the head coach at Maine-Fort Kent, Samuels coached 13 All-Americans and posted a 53-12-8 record. During that span, UMFK won the 2022 USCAA national title and was the national runner-up in both 2019 and 2021.
 
LAST TIME OUT:  The Blue Tigers attempted 18 shots and did not allow a single shot on goal, but Illinois-Springfield made eight saves to force a 0-0 draw in Springfield, Ill. on Saturday night (Sept. 5). Jerome Lawel led LU with five shots and Jonathan Nemorden had three shots on goal.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS:  McKendree has three goals on the season, one apiece by Morgan Dance, Stevie Jones and Fredrik Thulin. Alonso Romero, Lenny Dupouyet and Dylan Gloviak each have an assist. In the net, Filip Borka has played all 360 minutes and has recorded 14 saves while allowing opponents to score five goals.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS:  Southwest Baptist is undefeated on the season with two victories and a tie. Felipe Gilberti leads SBU offensively with two goals and three assists. In three matches the Bearcats have scored 17 goals, with Nathaniel Velasquez, Thomas Ledetto and Joe Wright each tallying three goals and one assist. Christian Cruz also has three goals on the season. Jan-Henry Schafer has three saves and two wins in the net.
 
WIN OR DRAW: Lincoln has not lost a match in the regular season since its penultimate contest of 2024, when the Blue Tigers fell to Rockhurst at home, 2-1. Under head coach Sammy Samuels, the Blue Tigers have gone 18-8-13, and have won or played to a draw in 20-straight regular season matches. In 2025, Lincoln went 10-0-6 before it began its postseason run, which ended in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
 
NATIONAL NOTES:  Vincent Osei ranks 47th in NCAA Division II, and seventh in the GLVC, in goals against average (1.0), and he is also 16th in the league in saves (three). With one shutout each, Felipe Mattos and Osei are tied for 34th in the country in shutouts. Jerome Lawel is 13th in Division II in shots per game (4.0) while Pedro Gomes is 18th in game-winning goals (one).
 
TEAM DIVISION II RANKS:  As a team, Lincoln ranks fifth in NCAA Division II in shutouts, as LU has not allowed a goal in its past two games. Lincoln's team goals against average of .667 is the 17th-best in the country. The Blue Tigers have a winning percentage of .667, tying them for 49th in the nation. LU is also 53rd in the country in shots per game (14.0).
 
THE COACHES LOVE THEM:  According to the GLVC Coaches Preseason Poll, the Blue Tigers are the favorite to win the conference in 2026. Lincoln received six first-place votes and 192 total points to secure the top overall ranking among the 15 league schools. Rockhurst also had six first-place votes and was picked second with 180 points. Maryville claimed two first-place votes while the other one went to Indianapolis.
 
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN:  All of Lincoln's home matches this season will be played at Capital City High School. Lincoln is 3-0 all-time at that venue, including a 4-0 victory over Missouri S&T in the GLVC tournament and a shootout win over Tiffin in the NCAA tourney last year. Lincoln also beat Drury, 7-0, at CCHS in 2024.
 
REVENGE MATCH:  There's a little extra on the line when the Blue Tigers host McKendree on Wednesday. Last year, Lincoln earned the No. 2 seed in the GLVC tournament, but fell just short of the championship match after falling in extra time to McKendree, 1-0. LU is seeking its first win over the Bearcats since resuming men's soccer in 2024.
