Â
THE KICKOFFÂ
The Lincoln football team is back in Jefferson City to host its annual Homecoming game this week, as the Blue Tigers play Upper Iowa at Dwight T. Reed Stadium on Saturday (Sept. 26) at 2:00 p.m. CDT. This is the earliest that the Blue Tigers have celebrated Homecoming since 2017, when Lincoln played Truman State on Sept. 23.
Â
The Blue Tigers opened the season with a 27-11 win over Central Methodist, but have suffered a pair of close losses over the past two weeks. The Blue Tigers fell at home to Langston, 19-14, on Sept. 12 before coming up just short, 34-27, at Quincy last Saturday (Sept. 19). Lincoln is 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in GLVC play.
Â
This is the first league game of the year for Upper Iowa, which is also 1-2 on the season. Upper Iowa opened its season with a 30-13 home victory over Jamestown, but lost close road games to Missouri Southern (21-19) & Michigan Tech (33-32).
Â
QUICK HITSÂ
- The relatively new series between Lincoln and Upper Iowa dates back to 2024. UIU leads the series, 2-0.
Â
- The Peacocks beat the Blue Tigers last season, 31-10, in Fayette, Iowa.
Â
- Lincoln is seeking its first Homecoming victory since 2024, when the Blue Tigers beat Lincoln (CA), 40-14, for the first victory in
Moses Harper's tenure as head coach.
Â
- A Blue Tiger win would be the first for Lincoln against a conference opponent since Oct. 19, 2019, when LU beat Northeastern State, 27-9, as a member of the MIAA.
Â
- Lincoln is playing for multiple home wins in a season for the first time since 2014, when the Blue Tigers beat both Quincy and Texas College. The Blue Tigers earned a 27-11 victory against Central Methodist in Reed Stadium on Aug. 29.
Â
- A win for the Blue Tigers would also be their first against a GLVC opponent since 2018, when Lincoln won in Liberty, Mo. against William Jewell, 23-14. That was the last season LU played as an associate member of the league.
Â
- The Blue Tigers enter this weekend with an all-time record of 265-517-25.
Â
-
Moses Harper was named the head coach of the Lincoln football team in 2024. He is in his third season leading the Blue Tigers and has an overall and program record of 4-21 entering this week.

Â
- This is the 95th season of Lincoln football. The Blue Tigers first fielded a team in 1920 and played every year until 1943, when Lincoln took a year off due to World War II. LU then played each season from 1944-1989. The football program was disbanded at that point, but was brought back in 2000. Lincoln did not play a full schedule in 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions.
